This last weekend we last minute decided to travel with our kids to Medford Oregon and Shady Cove Oregon to visit family. We traveled during the middle of October and the scenery was perfect for a fall trip with changing leaves, crisp fall air, and orchards everywhere.

Once we arrived we noticed that all around us on the rolling hills were bright orange and yellow oaks mixed with other withering trees. It was gorgeous and made for some beautiful walk gathering acorns and pine cones. I gathered a bunch for vase filler.

Hiking in Medford

While visiting we also hiked to some lava tubes and a gorge! If you are around Medford and would like a nature walk head to these two hikes.

The first hike was the Natural Bridge Loop trail. It’s a little drive but the forest is gorgeous along the way and includes a scenic view across a bridge as well. As you walk along the trail you will get to see some cool tubes where lava once flowed.

The second hike was to the Rogue River Gorge. This is just minutes away from the Lava Tubes so be sure to visit both. The Gorge was beautiful with mossy rocks and rock formations.

Along both are some fun educational signs that my kids enjoyed reading. Both trails are paved and are fairly easy walks perfect for children and strollers. Both also offer restrooms. There is also picnic tables at the Natural Bridge Loop trail.

Kid Activities in Medford

Aside from the hikes, we enjoyed going to Hillcrest Orchard. We also learned that they have occasional events such as a Halloween trunk or treat so it would be worth heading to their website here.

There was a wonderful park call Bear Creek Park we took our kids to that had lots of fun attractions. It had an area for small children and a space for large children. There is a small stream that runs through the park and large fields. There was also a wheelchair accessible swing too.

Our last stop was at a Harry and David store which is a local artisan store that sells local produce, gourmet popcorn, coffee, wine, preserves, and more! They had samples while we were there and we had to get some of their Moose Tracks popcorn. Yum!

Aside from sightseeing we enjoyed visiting cousins and grandma and grandpa McLean. We’re excited to come back another time and go tubing down the Rouge River. But for now, it’s back to laundry and crafting.
