Here are seven ways to add personality to your home. I noticed that my home was missing some character so I’ve added a few touches to my home that were so simple and easy so I thought I would share them with you today. Also my kids are always drawing photos for me. So I’ve included a really simple DIY coloring page holder as well. All of these ideas have added comfort and personality to my home.
1. MAKE CHILDRENS DRAWINGS INTO DISPLAYS-
My children are often coloring and creating. They bring me drawings from school or they make some at home. I usually take a photo on my phone and throw it away. But I came up with this idea of a way to display the kids art in a fun way that can be switched out easily. You take a thick ribbon you can purchase at the dollar store, Walmart, or a craft store and cut it the length of the door plus a couple of inches. Take the top of the ribbon and staple it to the top of the door. Then take clothes pins and you can clip the artwork to the door.
You can find more ideas for decorating with your children’s artwork here.
2. MAKE PHOTO COLLAGE
Print out happy moments of your kids and make a photo collage. I used a large frame and these square prints from Parabo Press. You can order your own set of square prints by using the code “CAJAN”. Having so many happy photos in one place really makes the room seem more personal.
3. USE YOUR HOBBIES IN DECOR
If you have a hobby such as playing an instrument or hockey you can use items from those hobbies to decorate. Hang a guitar or in my case I have hung my violin. Take an old pair of skis and spray paint it. These items definitely add personality to your home and are always great talking pieces.
4. GET MEANINGFUL DECOR
I found a pillow that had the coordinates of where my husband and I were married from Latter Day Home. You can see it in the top photo of this post. Look for items that are practical and include memories.
5.SAVE TICKETS OR FLOWERS
Save sentimental items and frame them. You can do flowers from your wedding, movie tickets from dates, pamphlets, or even hospital bracelets from babies.
6. ADD CUSTOM ENGRAVED PIECES
Much like the pillow look for wood engraved items like this custom engraved cutting board.
7. PICK DECOR THAT MATCHES YOU
Lastly something I have strived for in my home is décor that matches me. Make sure you feel comfortable in your own home.
I hope through some of these ways you find ways to add personality to your home so your home really reflects you. As I’ve added these touches I’ve found being in my home really helps me really love my home and feel happy in it. Happy decorating friends.
Dont like the fact that you included barack in the masks as there are so many more deserving oresidents. Can you make one for ronald reagon?
Thanks for your comment Joyce. At the current time, I created the masks Barack was the current president. Aside from this I found it monumental as he was the first African American president. That being said, I completely agree that there are several other amazing presidents I would love to add to the collection including Ronald Reagan. I remember visiting the Reagan museum with my grandfather in Southern California. I will email you with the updates. Thanks for feedback.
