Love changes, gives hope, can
heal, and is powerful
Every month I have the
opportunity in my church to visit and do service for a handful of women in my
neighborhood. This is called visiting teaching in the Mormon religion. And it
is hard sometimes to make time to visit these women. No one is paying me. I
wasn’t their friends before I was asked to serve them. Really, I have no
obligation than my own desire to serve others.

So why do I visit teach? I visit teach because of love. Since I first starting visit teaching I have found so much joy in stepping away from my own personal needs. I also feel that as any service we do, it brings us closer to the Savior. I mean, after all he performed the greatest service for us. I stumbled upon this quote by Dieter F. Utchdorf that said, “Because love is the great commandment, it ought to be at the center of all and everything we do in our own family, in our Church callings, and in our livelihood. Love is the healing balm that repairs rifts in personal and family relationships. It is the bond that unites families, communities, and nations. Love is the power that initiates friendship, tolerance, civility, and respect. It is the source that overcomes divisiveness and hate. Love is the fire that warms our lives with unparalleled joy and divine hope. Love should be our walk and our talk.”

I truly believe this is true. Loving someone who I had hard
feelings against has healed those feelings. That kind of love for me was
letting go of my feelings of sadness and frustration and choosing to look at
the person as God would. I believe that God sees me for my imperfections, but
most importantly knows my heart and loves me still.
 So this
months message for visiting teaching message is about marriage. After looking over the lesson I really enjoyed this scripture, Genesis 2:19, because it shows that even from the beginning it was Gods plan that we should have love. God wants us women and men to have a companion. Love is really a huge part of His plan.

the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help

took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman,
and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh:
she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave
his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto
his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
