For the first time in 18 years I have all my children in school. This year has led me to ponder how to spend this new season with questions like, what do I want to be when I get older and how to best spread my joy. This has led me to pursuing a career more focused in art. With that I have released some new paintings on my website! This Time and Seasons painting has been in the works for years. It is inspired by the scripture “D&C 88:42 And again, verily I say unto you, he hath given a law unto all things, by which they move in their times and their seasons. 43 And their courses are fixed, even the courses of the heavens and the earth, which comprehend the earth and all the planets. 44 And they give light to each other in their times and in their seasons, in their minutes, in their hours, in their days, in their weeks, in their months, in their years—all these are one year with God, but not with man.” And it is for me the perfect piece to kick off this new season for me.

Painting the Time and Seasons painting I reflected on the different seasons of my life and the times when I simply didn’t have the capacity to create. When my kids were little and life felt nonstop, toys in the toilet, crying babies, making time for myself seemed impossible. Years ago, though, I chose to begin carving out space by starting my blog and creating art again. Finishing this piece fills me with love for every version of myself — the overwhelmed new mom, the busy woman who kept going, and the one who nurtured that small creative spark.

In Latter-day Saint teachings, “To everything there is a season” (Ecclesiastes 3:1–8) is a foundational principle that reflects God’s orderly plan for life and the earth. The Book of Mormon and modern prophets teach that God has established times and seasons for all things — from planting and harvesting to periods of peace and war — so that His children can live in harmony with His purposes. I love that this not only symbolizes that there is a time for planting, sowing, and resting, but that times do pass. In God’s design, our times and seasons shift and change.

I cannot express how much I’ve poured myself into getting my art done and up—hours of painting, and then even more behind the scenes. This is acrylic hand painted with gold leaf dividing the seasons. It honestly felt like hitting wall after wall, like trying to work while a cat walks across your keyboard every five minutes. But I made it through, and I have new beautiful heirloom-quality art prints available! And to celebrate, my linework prints are now for sale too.
