“And no matter what challenges or setbacks or disappointments you may encounter along the way, you will find true success and happiness if you have only one goal, there really is only one, and that is this: to fulfill the highest most truthful expression of yourself as a human being. You want to max out your humanity by using your energy to lift yourself up, your family and the people around you. Theologian Howard Thurman said it best. He said, “Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive and then go do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” -Oprah
Have you come alive? I’ll tell you this quote summarizes the “why” behind what I do. Why I love being a mother and why I created this blog. Why I draw, craft, write or create in any form. Why I make time for tickle fights, snuggling with the baby and watching sunsets. These things make me alive inside. They inspire me and energize me. They calm my mind, lift me and hopefully others.
Today, especially on #internationalwomensday, I’ve got to ask, for the ladies and the gents too, but especially my fellow ladies.
Have you come alive?
- What makes you come alive?
- Are you doing it?
- If not, why not?
- Are you surrounded by people who make you feel alive? Who motivates and inspire you?
- Are you someone who makes others feel alive?
- When was the last time you felt alive?
There was a time when I was strictly a SAHM. And during that time I felt like I was missing something from my life. And it wasn’t until I started blogging I realized how much creatively I was starved. But looking back I am grateful for those years and that season. During that time I gained a love for motherhood that motivates me to this day to slow down and savor my little rugrats.
That’s what life is full of my friends, seasons. And though this season you’re in may or may not be filled with all the things that make you come alive, I sure hope you find part of it does. You may read this and think, changing diapers or working 9-5 does not make me come alive. But I sure hope that even in a sunset or cactus filled greenhouse, you find something that makes you live alive often. And if you haven’t felt alive in a while today is your day.
Especially today on Women’s Day, today is your day. And to the amazing women who inspire me, who help me come alive, Thank you. “What the world needs is people who have come alive.” Keep on killing it!
